In times of war.

In times of war we second guess
Strategies and unhappiness
Uniforms and standard dress
Soldiers fought, some to impress
Harshness and resentment
Holes in the ground and fences bent
Tanks and armour which bullets dent
Combat troops, in towns they are sent
In times of war people get
Injured, hurt and in debt
Soldiers came and saved our land
Ships offshore, and some inland
Loud explosions can be heard
Storming shells seem to tear
And air attacks are so unfair
Civilisation has been beat
Refugees with no food to eat
In times of war you ration meat
And hope to God, you don’t face defeat
In times of war, soldiers march
Ships offshore
And news reports
Some cameraman captures a soldier dying
Shell shocked beaches
Whole nations crying
In times of war, souls divided
Wounds and gore
And laws unabided
In times of war, heaven sent
Whole armies wiped out
And we repent.
